Summer Palette

I chose summer as my season, and Mac as my model! It seemed fitting to use him because I know he's a surfer (despite the fact that he's from Canada), so he's bound to have a pair of surfer apparel. So, during our photo shoot, I really just wanted to focus on his shorts and his legs. Although there wasn't any sand, just the focus on the boardshorts and the white background screamed at me to make it summer-y. When I chose my photo, I didn't know what to do exactly, or how to incorporate my summer color palette to create a background. So, I decided to come up with a crazy, sort of complicated background with the majority of the summer color palette to make the background look interesting, almost as if it was like him standing a really weird beach, with a rising sun brush in the background, because usually during the summer, it's extremely sunny.

I tend to have a problem with white space as well as creating things especially for this project since there are so many things going on at the end of the year. I found myself somewhat stumped, like I was on a "photoblock" or something. But now, I was able to finish and follow through. :)

reshILL

So, for the photo shopping project, I decided to use Reshil. So I was online looking for brushes because the brushes that were already on photo shop didn't seem to please me. I went online to brusheezy.com and found these really interesting Victorian looking flower things that are in a teal-ish aquamarine-ish color behind her which I found very appropriate for a background because it seems very neutral and works well with the background. Then to add to the picture, I scribbled a little brush instead of a boring background bar for her name, and added her name "reshILL" which the "ill" stands for how cool she is in my lookbook.

Blending

For this photoshop project, I had to shoot a model with the strobe light and then edit it into photoshop by softening and blending the models skin just like the way they do in magazines and such. I chose ReshiLL because she knows how to move and pose in front of a camera a lot easier than the way I can tell her what to move. The second picture that I would have used instead of this one I didn't like was because she wore wore a hair tie on her wrist which I didn't really like.

Through the photoshopping process, learning the tutorial was kind of complicated at first, but after the second time, it got a lot easier. I learned how to soften her skin, and also photoshop her to look like she was in a magazine article, or as if she modeled for Forever 21.

I enjoy using the strobe, and I hope to get my own dslr because I like digital photography :)

Elements of Designs Photography Project

So, this photography project we had the choice to take pictures of the Elements of Design or the Principles of Design. For my project, I chose to do the Elements of Design which are color, lines, shape/form, space, and texture, while still using the rule of thirds. Nowadays I find myself always using the rule of thirds in my pictures, haha. Or at least I try to use the rule of thirds. Anyway, when I shot all of these pictures, it was during class, and surprisingly on an extremely gray day, so I'm grateful my pictures didn't suffer from the lack of dull lighting.

The first picture was of texture, and I tried to capture the texture of the rope, the silver handle that it was wrapped around, and also the smooth pole. In the picture for space, I used the pole, but at a different angle. It was at an angle in which the positive space is the flag and flagpole, and the gray sky around it is the negative space. I also have part of the tree in the top right corner which helped me balance the empty negative space out. The picture I used as the element of color I chose because it was the most vibrant picture I shot that day. The shades of pinks, greens, and warm yellows really attracted to me when I took a picture of that bush. As I walked around the campus, I found myself taking pictures of cracks in the cement which I planned to use as "lines," but instead I saw the straight grass which I used to interpret the element of Lastly, I took a picture of tree branches in the way that the lighting came out as a silhouette, and I used the creepy-looking tree branches as the element of shape and form because of the way the branches twist and turn.

To make my project more interesting, Ms. Miles gave me suggestions to spice it up. She suggested that I make the text stand out a lot more but also to make the white space more interesting, so using the dropper tool, I used colors from the pictures to accentuate the back of the text. I also used colors from the pictures to make color boxes, almost like color swatches, to compliment and correspond to the colors of the pictures.

Faashonnn

For this fashion shot project, I used my sister, once again, as my model. It might be because me, being the photographer, and my sister, being the model, are in relation by blood sisters, so we're comfortable with each other. Regardless, I had fun shooting my sister.

At first, I felt overwhelmed with the project because I wasn't sure about what kind of "fashion" I should use, so then I thought my sister had a great white dress that would be able to contrast with her hair.

After school on a Friday is when we had the photo shoot. It was easier after school because no one was in the room, making it much more easier for her to open up to the camera. I had her do many different poses, sometimes even dancing, but all in all, this pose I remember specifically having her face away from me, count to 3, and then turn to the camera and pose. This was what I got.

After developing I made proofs of the shots. It was a lot of trial and error when it came to the shots because of the fact that I wasn't precise at all when I shot. In the end of all of the mistakes and what not, I basically chose three of my best shots, and narrowed it down to one.

In the process of photo shopping this picture, I decided to brighten the picture a little bit but also boost up the contrast between her hair and the dress. In all, I still feel like the picture is too bright, but I'm still learning. When it comes to adding text to make this more commercially fashion-y, I added text so the shot looked like it was apart of a look book for maybe a site like Forever21.com and what not.

Maybe in the future I could probably more the strobe light around at a different angle because I feel like the strobe light had a lot to do with why it didn't work as great as I wanted it to.

L337

Hm. So. The process through this project. After some time of looking through the other pictures I took, I chose this. I happened to have been taking a picture with my friend Mac, but I found the way I posed in this picture with photobooth interesting. This was my second day of photoshopping this picture into something only because of the fact that I'm extremely indecisive. So, using Adobe CS3, I used brushes that look like paint splatters in the color that my nails are painted in at this point in time for the background. Usually I like to use paint splatters because of the randomness of where the paint ends. I also used the red underneath the layer that says "L337" to emphasize "L337".

Using the picture of myself, I cropped myself out, brightened the contrast, and played with the curves before putting it on top of the background. With the background I used two different filters of select parts of the paint. I used the "watercolor" filter to show a contrast with the regular paint, and also "grain" to add a subtle effect of a difference.

In this project I believe it best represents me for many reasons. First, I blocked my eyes out because although I believe my eyes to be very effective in the way that they're extremely striking, I thought maybe my body language may have a similar effect. Second, as before, I like the randomness of the paint splatters. I chose the colors because I like bright, bold colors. At least, at this moment I do. Lastly, I chose the letter "L" and the number "337" (three hundred thirty seven) because it looks like "leet" and I'M LEET. HAHAHA! Just a joke. But it does look interesting, and I think I'm pretty interesting..
