So, this photography project we had the choice to take pictures of the Elements of Design or the Principles of Design. For my project, I chose to do the Elements of Design which are color, lines, shape/form, space, and texture, while still using the rule of thirds. Nowadays I find myself always using the rule of thirds in my pictures, haha. Or at least I try to use the rule of thirds. Anyway, when I shot all of these pictures, it was during class, and surprisingly on an extremely gray day, so I'm grateful my pictures didn't suffer from the lack of dull lighting.
The first picture was of
texture, and I tried to capture the texture of the rope, the silver handle that it was wrapped around, and also the smooth pole. In the picture for
space, I used the pole, but at a different angle. It was at an angle in which the positive space is the flag and flagpole, and the gray sky around it is the negative space. I also have part of the tree in the top right corner which helped me balance the empty negative space out. The picture I used as the element of
color I chose because it was the most vibrant picture I shot that day. The shades of pinks, greens, and warm yellows really attracted to me when I took a picture of that bush. As I walked around the campus, I found myself taking pictures of cracks in the cement which I planned to use as "lines," but instead I saw the straight grass which I used to interpret the element of Lastly, I took a picture of tree branches in the way that the lighting came out as a silhouette, and I used the creepy-looking tree branches as the element of
shape and form because of the way the branches twist and turn.
To make my project more interesting, Ms. Miles gave me suggestions to spice it up. She suggested that I make the text stand out a lot more but also to make the white space more interesting, so using the dropper tool, I used colors from the pictures to accentuate the back of the text. I also used colors from the pictures to make color boxes, almost like color swatches, to compliment and correspond to the colors of the pictures.
